Weighing the Week AheadJeff Miller

EcoWeekBNP Paribas
Global: Upward revision of the growth outlook for 2016 in the Euro area and emerging markets, downward revision in the US. Major challenges for 2017 are Federal Reserve policy and the impact of the already observed increase in oil prices. Eurozone: With the exception of Greece and Portugal, all Eurozone member states can issue long-term bonds at lower interest rates than their nominal trend growth rates.

Week Ahead: US payrolls, ECB meeting, Chinese PMIs Nordea
Although we don’t buy into a June rate hike from the Fed, we expect the US labour market report on Friday to support the case for a hike rather soon. For the ECB, it’s implementation time. New measures would come as a big surprise at this point. Draghi has to choose his word carefully in order not to scare markets. The Chinese PMIs should add to the recent signals of stabilisation. As for Nordic Q1 GDP numbers, we expect another strong reading from Sweden and not much growth in Denmark.

Strategy: US domestic economy picks up speed Danske Bank
US consumption and housing gain pace giving comfort to the Fed * A summer hike is increasingly likely barring any negative surprises * USD to strengthen short term
driven by higher US yields * Euro yields supported by QE – to stay range bound * Moderate improvement in German sentiment indicators

Macro Weekly: Is the ECB doing the right things? ABN AMRO

FX Weekly: Moves overdone ABN AMRO
US dollar rally to be temporary… as well as the strengthening of sterling. Firmer oil prices support currencies of oil exporting countries. Weaker iron ore prices weigh on AUD; RBNZ to pause in June? Resilient Japanese yen and Chinese yuan.

Emerging Markets OutlookABN AMRO
In 2016, the contribution of emerging markets to global economic growth will increase slightly for the first time in years. However, weak economic trends in Latin America and parts of emerging Europe are not over yet. The risk of setbacks remains as high as ever.

Sterling has been volatile of late, which is no surprise given the June 23 Brexit vote but the GBP's trajectory can be traded in a variety of ways.
